Simple! You the artist or company produces your super fantastic out of this world show. Then you locate a venue (we will of course help you with this). A venue can be anything from a traditional performance space or to a parking lot. Then you sign up, pay a registration and participation fee and you're in. So, go ahead and start creating your show and we'll do our part so everyone will have a blast at the 2011 inaugural O‘ahu Fringe Festival.
Towards our journey to 2011, we will hold a number of “how to fringe” to help you along. If you are from out of town, not to worry, we’ll keep you informed. Well ok, thanks, so what kinda show should I create? Ah, the big question.
Note, we can't tell you what to create, nor can we critique your show, but we can only suggest that you be creative and really think about how you can make your own genre stand out from the norm. For example, if your work is heavily text based, consider adding elements of physical theatre, or if you work is dance or visual, perhaps add some text, moving images or other elements. Hey, if you’d like to present an Opera show, consider doing it in a pool of water or someplace daring. Traditionally, Fringe shows push the boundaries, so have a go.
Remember your work will be watched by people from all walks of life; give them something that they'll be mesmerized by.
To offer our audiences a really enjoyable time at the Fringe, we have a limit on show times. 60 minutes is the maximum, and 30 minutes minimum. In setting up this time limit, and holding the Fringe in the Arts District of Honolulu, audiences will be able to go from one show location to another with ease and see as many shows as possible. The bold audience member could see up to five shows a night.
Go! Start creating! 2011 will be here very soon. With our Fringe Launch in 2010, we’ll be one step closer to our Fringe Festival. Be Fringe and we'll see your work and your beautiful smile in Honolulu.
